Mitchell Community College named Mai Thao Lee as Student of the Month. Vince Cherry, chief executive officer for Davis Regional Medical Center, one of the College’s annual sponsors presented the award.
Lee, who comes from a large family in California, is determined to break away from the stereotypical role that her family had in mind. She decided to move to North Carolina where she could pursue an education in health care. Lee is a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and is currently working towards a degree. She plans to apply to Mitchell’s nursing program and hopes to become a nurse practitioner or attend medical school.
When it comes to school, Lee is enthusiastic, confident and dedicated. Her determination was evident when she came to class two days after an emergency appendectomy at the beginning of the semester. She is an inspiration to classmates and faculty.
