Stories of Excellence

Kevin Prevette

Solving unique electrical problems is Kevin Prevette’s specialty. An Electrical Mechanical Technician at AdvancePierre Foods in Claremont, North Carolina, Prevette recently completed a retrofit of a pillow pack machine – a system that slices and packs bread. Prevette has helped his company run more efficiently by tackling a challenge that others had not been able to master. Mitchell helped make this possible.

Prevette found his niche after burning out on physically taxing jobs. “Mitchell gave me a confidence boost and helped me to realize I didn’t have to earn minimum wage at a dead-end job,” Prevette said. Lee Troutman, program coordinator for Mechatronics Engineering Technology, was key in guiding Prevette towards a meaningful career where he is respected and valued. “My instructors are really motivated and invested in me,” Prevette noted, relating how Troutman even came to AdvancePierre to help Prevette troubleshoot.

Prevette plans to complete his Electronics Engineering degree at Mitchell in the fall of 2015. From there, his goal is to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte while continuing to work at AdvancePierre. “I hope I can motivate someone to go to school,” Prevette said, “It’s the best thing someone can do.”
