Dr. Steve Hill was honored on Saturday, May 7 with Mitchell Community College’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Hill, a Statesville native and life-long resident, was a member of the first graduating class of Mitchell Community College in 1974 after attending both South Iredell and North Iredell high schools. Hill earned a B.S. in history in 1976 and a M.A. in school administration in 1986, both from Appalachian State University. He earned an Ed.D. from UNC-Greensboro in 1992.

Hill was a teacher and assistant principal at Statesville High School from the late 1970s until 1990, when he became principal at South Iredell High School (until 1999). Hill retired as assistant superintendent for the area high schools in 2009. He is the owner/operator of the Statesville Historical Collection in downtown Statesville and has served on the Mitchell Board of Trustees for five years. Hill and his wife Penny Hedrick are the proud grandparents of six wonderful grandchildren, with one more on the way.
