Connolly honored as Mitchell’s distinguished alumna

Elizabeth Connolly was honored on Saturday, May 2 with Mitchell Community College’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Connolly, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday graduated Mitchell College in 1934. She has been a faithful and supportive alumna ever since.

Elizabeth Connolly was born April 24, 1915 in Catawba County. Connolly had a full career in the insurance profession, eighteen years with C. W. Brown Insurance Agency then two with Fox Insurance. She moved to Columbia, South Carolina for seven years. When she returned to Statesville she spent 27 years with Webb Insurance, the firm she was working for when she retired. The last few years she did slow down a little, working three days a week until she was 77. She would come out of retirement and assist the Iredell County Tax Office with their annual listing for a few more years.

Connolly had one brother and two sister, all deceased. She had six nephews and two nieces that were “her children”. For several years “her children” have given a scholarship at Mitchell College to honor her as their inspiration to getting their college degrees.
