The Mitchell Community College Jazz Ensemble will present a holiday concert featuring jazz arrangements on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in Shearer Hall. Selections will include several holiday standards such as Winter Wonderland, Sleigh Ride, Let It Snow, and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Featured soloists include Mitchell saxophone instructor Patrick Brown and Mitchell’s Community Music Coordinator Emily Schuttenberg.
Patrick Brown holds a bachelor of music degree in saxophone performance with a certification in jazz studies from Appalachian State University and a master of music degree in multiple woodwind performance from Winthrop University. Brown has performed for such notable venues and festivals as the Blowing Rock Jazz Society, ASU Jazz Festival, Jazz Discovery Music Festival, East Side Jazz Festival, and the North Texas Jazz Festival. Mr. Brown also serves on the faculty of Davidson College and Lenoir-Rhyne College.
Emily Schuttenberg earned a bachelor’s degree at Western Carolina University. She is an active stage performer including leads in Mother Divine (at the NYC Fringe Festival), Curtains (Piedmont Players), God of Carnage, She Loves Me (Hickory, NC) and most recently SPAMALOT (Hickory, NC).
The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Beverly Brown. This event is free and open to the public. Shearer Hall is located on the main historic campus in Statesville.
