Jamie Mack was recognized as Mitchell Community College’s Student of the Month. The presentation was made by Doug Hendrix, Statesville city executive for Piedmont Bank, one of the College’s annual sponsors.

After being unemployed for over 6 months, Mack came to Mitchell and enrolled in the Back-to-Work program. He achieved a silver-level Career Readiness Certificate and is completing his certification in welding. Days after completing his Back-to-Work boot camp he secured employment at Kewaunee Scientific through Mancan.

“Coming back to school has inspired me,” said Mack. He admits that school has helped rebuild his self-esteem and motivated him to take action.

“Jamie comes to welding classes and is enthusiastic about the program and his future,” said Al Loflin, Mitchell’s welding instructor. “He has overcome barriers that kept him from reentering the workforce. He is definitely a testament to the Back-to-Work program and an inspiration to others in the community.”

A native of Statesville, Mack graduated from Statesville Senior High and sang gospel music professionally. He has been married for 12 years and has five children.
