Mitchell Community College named Jeanne Compton as Student of the Month. Joe Towell, president and CEO of Yadkin Bank, one of the College’s annual sponsors presented the award. Compton started her GED eight years ago and had successfully completed all the tests except mathematics. The GED program Compton started was scheduled to expire on December 31, 2013. Knowing her scores would expire too motivated her to complete the test before the deadline. Compton studied while working full-time in Mitchell’s facilities department. Compton is currently working on her Career Readiness Certification and is considering additional courses.
“We are so proud of her,” said Candy Putman, director of basic skills. “Jeanne has worked very hard. She is an inspiration to other basic skills students struggling with math.”
Starting this month, Mitchell will offer two options for individuals who want to pursue a high school diploma–GED Testing or Adult High School diploma. For more information, call (704) 878-3232.
