Mitchell Community College graduations scheduled

Mitchell’s Curriculum keynote speaker, Kennon Briggs, retired executive with the North Carolina Community College System

The 2014 Mitchell Community College graduation ceremonies begin Wednesday, May 14, with a Nurse Pinning Ceremony. Kaye (Miller) Henderson will be the keynote speaker. Henderson was Mitchell’s director of nursing before retiring in 2002.

On Thursday, May 15, members of the High School Equivalency Diploma Class of 2014 will graduate. Students Raylla Murray, Corey Norton and June Paben will be guest speakers.

On Friday, May 16, the Curriculum graduation will be held. Kennon D. Briggs will be the keynote speaker. Briggs was vice president and chief of staff of the North Carolina Community College System before retiring in 2012. He currently serves as a higher education consultant; a member of The University of North Carolina Asheville board of trustees; partner in Upswing, a technology and learning company in Durham; and chair of the finance committee at Saint Francis United Methodist Church.

All three ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. and will be held on the Circle on the main historic campus.

Also scheduled Friday, May 16, are the two early college graduations. Students from the Visual and Performing Arts (VPAC) program will receive their high school diplomas at 1 p.m. at Mac Gray Auditorium at Statesville High School. Students from the Collaborative College for Technology and Leadership (CCTL) will receive their high school diplomas at 2 p.m. on the Circle at Mitchell. Early college students receiving degrees will also participate in the Curriculum graduation ceremony Friday evening.
