Fifty-one students were recognized for academic achievement and campus involvement during Mitchell Community College’s annual awards day ceremony.
Darin L. Aldridge was presented the NC Community College System Academic Excellence Award and All-USA Community College Academic Team Nominee Recognition. Shelia Wilson received The Dallas Herring Achievement Award. David Salmonsen was recognized as the Region 2 Finalist for the Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award.

Staton Composition Award; Louis Gimbutis, The Jane Heymann Literature Award; Carmen Shook, The Martha Linney Creative Writing Award; Sheila Wilson and Darin Aldridge, Human Services Technology; Peter Eller and Mason Young, Curriculum Mathematics; Dexter Durlin. Certificates of Achievement and Recognition for Club Activities were presented to Patrick Mencias-Lewis, Student Government Association Leadership Difference; Coy Nobles, Student Government Association Leadership in Service; Michele Taylor, National Society of Leadership and Success; Jessica Vaughan, Early Childhood Club Award; Darin Aldridge, Human Services Club; and Michelle Taylor and Kylee Shumaker, Phi Theta Kappa Outstanding Officer Award.

Also during the program, the 2013-14 SGA Officers were introduced: Dexter Dulin, president; Jonathan Moorey, vice president; and Garland Turner, treasurer.
