Mitchell welcomes spring with music recitals and concerts

Mitchell Community College Music Department announces their spring recitals and concerts. All performances will be in Shearer Hall on the Statesville Campus. 

 

 

Thursday, April 2, at 12:30 p.m. 

A Faculty Voice Recital featuring Kelly Hutchinson and Kathleen Smith with accompanist Emily Schuttenberg.

 

 

Thursday, April 16, at 12:30 p.m.

The Freshman Music Recital featuring solo repertoire pieces performed by first year music majors.

 

 

Monday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m.

Come enjoy the talented Mitchell Community Band, under the direction of Jack Horner.  A variety of pieces will be performed, including the beautiful Cumberland Falls Overture, the dramatic Clash of the Ironclads, as well as selections from the popular movies James Bond and Les Miserables. Familiar jazz tunes such as Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Afro Blue will also be performed. It’s sure to be a spectacular night of free music for the entire family!

The Sophomore Music Recital featuring solo repertoire pieces performed by second year music majors.

 

 

Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. 

The Spring Jazz Ensemble Concert featuring the music of the Big Band Swing Era. Come and enjoy the music of the 1930’s and 1940’s when Swing was King! 

 

 

Tuesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. 

The Mitchell Student Chorus, under the direction of Kelly Hutchinson, and the Mitchell Community Chorus, under the direction of Emily Schuttenberg, will present  “Music For the People; Folk Songs from Around the World.”  Come hear well-known favorites like Waltzing Matilda and Danny Boy, rhythmic selections from Russia and Cuba, and beautiful tunes from Korea, America, and more!
