Privacy Policy on Student Records

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 provides safeguards regarding the confidentiality of and access to student records. This Act will be adhered to by Mitchell Community College.

No records shall be made available to unauthorized personnel or groups outside the College without the written consent of the student involved, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure with consent or under legal compulsion.

FERPA regulations state that directory information may be shared without a student’s written consent.  Directory information includes a student’s name, address, date and place of birth, field of study, dates of attendance, and degrees and awards received.  However, at Mitchell Community College, the release of directory information may only be released by the Director of Records or his/her designee.

Any student who wishes to withhold any or all of this directory information from release must notify the registrar in writing within three weeks of the date of the student’s initial enrollment.

Students who wish to share their academic information with a third party must complete the “Permission to Release Student Information” form.  This form is only available at the Student Records offices.
