Mooresville class supports Food for Days drive

Food collected by Mooresville's ABE I classSometimes a small action can result in a big reaction. When Michael Owen, a student in Mitchell’s Mooresville Adult Basic Education I (ABE I) class, received a flyer from Mitchell student Kirstie Ezell a few weeks ago about her food drive project, he was spurred to action. The drive supports Food for Days, a Mooresville organization providing food for children in Iredell County who may have limited or no access to meals outside of school. Owen shared the flier with his instructors and suggested starting a class project in support of the drive.

Owen helped his teachers distribute flyers and, along with the help of class announcements and emails, donations from the class and families started to pour in. So far, the class’s efforts have resulted in generous donations overflowing their collection cart. The class turned in the pictured donations on Thursday, April 19. The class hopes to continue supporting the effort in the future. “I enjoyed helping out a lot,” Owen said, “and I want to help again if they need it.”
